Carswell-Nichols Herefords got its’ start in 1928, four generations ago. Through the years, J. Harold and Pat Carswell built their Hereford herd eventually partnering with daughter Carol and her husband Jim in the 70’s. Harold and Pat were very involved in the Hereford association, holding many state and national offices including Pat as National President of the Women’s association, as a couple they were honored as breeders of the year and inducted in the National Hereford Hall of fame just to name a few. By 1999, J. Harold felt it was time to retire from the registered business and sold his cattle. Jim maintained a commercial herd and farming. In 2004 Jim and Carol’s son, Brock and his wife Carolyn graduated from Kansas State University and joined the operation. Brock along with his brother Ryan wanted to get back into the registered business and got busy purchasing back genetics from Grandpa’s herd.
Today, Carswell-Nichols Herefords has continued to grow and evolve to serve our customers. We offer horned and polled genetics as well as replacement females, show and flush quality females and retail meat sales. Grandpa taught us the value of customer service, learning about a customer’s operation and what will serve him best.
In 2014 we held our first production sale and have continued in that capacity ever since however still offering private treaty sales throughout the year to meet the needs of our customers.
Currently, Brock and his wife Carolyn along with their kids: Avery, Emma, Zoe, Coy, Colt and Knox are spear-heading the operation. Jim and Carol remain very active at the ranch and their assistance is vital.
Here at Carswell-Nichols Herefords, we value our customers and are humbled by the sale turnout each year. We are excited to be in this industry, breeding cattle and working towards improving the breed each year. Hereford cattle have a long history of consistency and power and we are a proud to be part of it!
